Trees

The landscape in Iulius Gardens Timișoara, Iulius Park Cluj-Napoca, and Palas Park Iași is complete by trees that are impressive in terms of their sizes, the shape of their canopies, and the coloring of their foliage over different periods of the year. Iulius Gardens Timișoara includes 1,400 trees, Palas Park Iași is adorned by more than 1,000 trees, and Iulius Park Cluj-Napoca accommodates more than 100 spectacular trees. These are mature trees that have been delivered via special transportation procedures from nurseries based in Italy.

PTEROCARIA FRAXINIFOLIA

Pterocarya Fraxinifolia or the Caucasian walnut is a tree adapted to open spaces, with a very large canopy, creating a cool oasis in Palas Park Iași during summer. The tree is planted in the panoramic areas of the garden and near the terraces, providing shade for passionate readers, and superbly completing the natural landscape of the park.

CARPINUS PYRAMIDALIS

The Carpinus Pyramidalis tree or the pyramidal hornbeam has a perfect pyramid shape and can grow up to 12 m high. Ranges of hornbeams are used to mark borders, and in Palas Park Iași they are located near the stairway by the slope leading visitors towards the Palace of Culture, separating the stairway from the lawn. Another range of Carpinus Pyramidalis is located in a half circle opposite the main stairway, adding to the elegance of the park.

GINKGO BILOBA

Ginkgo Biloba is one of the “oldest” trees on Earth and is deemed a living fossil. In the Palas IaÈ™i garden, Ginkgo Biloba trees are laid out along the entire central perimeter of the park. They stand up at heights up to approximately 12 m and offer an air of sophistication.

BIG BONSAI

The bonsai is a complex tree that inspires calm and peace and has a distinctive capacity to create the man-nature connection. These iconic trees can be found both in Palas Park Iași and in Iulius Gardens Timișoara, where they draw all the eyes to them. The species in Timișoara (Camellia and Pinus Parviflora) are 5 meters high, while those in Palas Park Iași are up to 4.5 m high and are 100 years old.

TILIA (TEIUL)

Taking a stroll through Iulius Park Cluj-Napoca and Iulius Gardens Timișoara feels divine during spring owing to the fragrant linden flowers. The tree also has a very pleasant appearance and a plethora of therapeutic properties. The tree also provides a truly eye-catching spectacle: its summer foliage is zesty green and provides solid shade, and come autumn it takes on a lovely shade of yellow. In Iulius Gardens Timișoara the trees were brought in when they were 50 years old and 12 meters high, and the planting operation was complex and one of a kind in Europe.

SALIX (WILLOW)

Monumental sized willows have existed in Iulius Park Cluj-Napoca as early as its fit-out period, but they were in precarious conditions and required the intervention of landscape engineering teams to save them. The park is currently surrounded by luxuriant willows with long tresses swaying gracefully in the breeze and providing shade in the summertime for visitors coming here to unwind. Their presence can be easily noticed from every angle in the park, to the delight of Cluj locals.

​AESCALUS HIPPOCASTANUM

Aesculus hippocastanum, commonly known as the horse chestnut, is a strong tree standing at towering heights, decorative by means of its appearance, canopy, foliage, flowers, and fruit. The chestnut tree is perfect for decorating ample spaces such as the one in Iulius Gardens Timișoara, and the canopy looks magnificent during the flowering period. The horse chestnut trees planted in Iulius Gardens Timișoara were grown in a special greenhouse over the course of 50 years, reaching an approximate height of 12 meters, and are perfectly integrated in the green oasis in downtown Timișoara.

QUERCUS PYRAMIDALIS

Pyramidal oak trees (Quercus Pyramidalis) beautify the main alley in the center of Iulius Gardens Timișoara and make up the general frame of Iulius Park Cluj-Napoca. The ones in Iulius Gardens Timișoara are up to 12 meters high; they were grown in special greenhouses for 30 years, have impressive and eye-catching canopies, and are the stars of the most spectacular park in Timișoara. In the Iulius Park based in Cluj-Napoca these trees are up to 15 meters high.

FAGGIO

A majestic specimen of the Fagus species is located near the main entrance of Iulius Mall Cluj. The tree is impressive in terms of its solid trunk, as well as its canopy, which takes on a more and more beautiful shape as time goes by. The tree has become the star of the area.

PARROTIA PERSICA

The Persian ironwood is named as such in reference to its very dense wood. In spite of this, the tree showcases a very refined style, highlighted by its elegant shape, as well the ever-changing color of its foliage. The new leaves sprouting in spring are purple and turn a bright shade of green during summer almost all over their surface, only keeping the purple pigment on their margins. Later on, during autumn, they take on various combinations of yellow, orange and deep crimson to purple. These trees adorning Iulius Gardens Timișoara were grown in greenhouses for 40 years and are always awe-inspiring for the visitors.

CEDRUS ATLANTICA GLAUCA

Growing up to 12 meters high, cedars are one of the attractions in Iulius Gardens Timișoara. They are delicate and sensitive specimens, up to 50 years old, and originate in the Atlas Mountains, Morocco. The trees stand out by means of their prominence in the park and their year-round grey-green and bluish-green foliage.

PLATANUS

The Platanus, also known as the sycamore, is a decorative secular tree brought from a historic Italian town and perfectly completes the spectacular green space in Iulius Gardens Timișoara. The trees paint a captivating view along the garden alleys.

​MORUS

Originating in the north of Italy, Morus trees, commonly known as mulberry trees, were grown for a few years in special greenhouses in order to be planted in Iulius Gardens Timișoara. The trees are impressive owing to the shape of their canopies and colors of their foliage over different periods of the vegetation season.
